Shortening an Altar link

It's easy to copy a URL from Altar to share with your community online! However, the long auto-generated link can sometimes look messy, take up too much space, or even look like spam. Having a short, tidy URL encourages engagement with your service. You can use a Link Shortener to easily take your URL from a long string of words and dashes to a short little tag easy to post and share.

What is a Link Shortener?

A link shortener is a tool that shrinks your URL down to a bite size chunk rather than a multi-line mouthful. There are plenty of online link shorteners that allow you to generate a little link for free. This new link works the exact same as your older, longer one except it is more compact and less intimidating. We recommend using TinyURL or Bitly to generate your shortened link.

Using TinyURL

Step 1: Click HERE to access the TinyURL website.

Step 2: Paste your link into the first line of the box

Step 3: add a tag in the second box that will show up in your link.

Step 4: Share your new TinyURL!

Using Bitly

Step 1: Go to the Bitly Website

Step 2: Create a free account

Step 3: Click the orange create button and select create link.

Step 4: Paste in your long url then generate your new link with the orange create button.
