What do I need to start streaming online church events with Altar Live?

If you’re already live streaming your events, you already have all the equipment you need!  Altar works with your existing streaming platforms, such as YouTube and Facebook.  To see how to connect your current streaming platform, check out this article.

If you don’t want to stream on those platforms or are looking for something new, you have a couple of options:

One is to stream a pre-recorded video.  With Altar, you can link a video from a platform such as YouTube or Vimeo and have chat/rows/etc. interact with the recording in real-time, as if it were live.  Think of it as a giant watch party.

Another is to use an RTMP (Real Time Messaging Protocol) feed.  This only requires you to copy and paste a stream key into your stream source (such as OBS), and you can also send the video feed from Altar to YouTube and Facebook as well.  For more information on using an RTMP feed, see this article.

What do I need to start hosting meetings with Altar Live?

If you’re looking to host meetings, there are a couple of specifications you’ll have to meet:

  • An internet connection – broadband wired or wireless - at least 2.0 Mbps outbound (upload) and 2.5 Mbps inbound (download) are required
  • Speakers and a microphone – built-in or USB plug-in or wireless Bluetooth
  • A webcam or HD webcam - built-in or USB plug-in

To be sure you have the best meeting experience, we suggest your connection is less than 100ms (400 max).  To measure your current connection, you can run a command such as ping in your computer’s command line.

That’s all the equipment you need!  If you have further technical questions, feel free to reach out to us at contact@altarlive.com.
